Happy Birthday to You Hailey!

Today is my daughter's 24th birthday!  Happy Birthday to her.  I love you Hailey.

Today's layout is a tribute to her.  She pushes me to do things that I normally wouldn't do.  The latest example was a hike to High Rock Lookout.  I agreed to go as long as it was a trail that was not up a hill and as long as it was more for beginners.  "Sure Mom" was all I heard, so I went.  The first thing that should have given me a clue about this hike is that it's called "High Rock".  Of course it's going to be up hill!!!

To make a long story short, we encountered many downed trees that we had to climb over or under, lots of mud, and lots of snow.  For those of you that are're probably thinking, what a wimp! Yes, I know I am.  It was only 1.6 miles up but it was the hardest 1.6 miles I ever walked.  I couldn't wait to get to the top.  I thought about how I was going to sit down, relax, and enjoy the views.  A Pina Colada or some type of fruity drink would also be, I'm just dreaming.

I finally made it to the top!  Yeah!!

Climbing up to the fire tower was absolutely terrifying.  I wouldn't even go inside.  It's literally on the side of a cliff.  Hailey's dog Delilah was jumping around the rocks like a jack rabbit.  I thought she was going to give me a heart attack.  I managed to capture a few photos of Hailey.  There are none of me.....I wasn't in the mood for frivolous things like photos.  I just wanted down!

On a positive note.....I will always remember this day with Hailey!

The Layout:
Supplies:  I used a laminated map of the area to pinpoint where we were hiking, a journaling card which tells the story of our day, and a Heidi Swapp gold foiled title.

No More Excuses!

The topic came up during our last "girls weekend", aka (scrapbook weekend).  Why don't we get more layouts done?  The reasons vary...too much talking, too much singing, too much drinking (shhh), and lack of planning!  Searching for photos that we forgot to bring seems to be high on the list of whys.  I am here to help!  I have created a Scrapbook Layout Preparation list.  I know....for some of you, this is a bit too much planning, and that's OK.  I have been doing a less formal version of this for years using a simple notebook as my planner. The times when I get the most done are when I plan.  Make this list your own, feel free to change the wording, headers, or anything else that you want to change.  Adding in an inspiration photo can be a bit challenging (to get everything lined up). An easier option is to staple or paperclip a photo or other inspiration in that section.  I also left a space to sketch out your layout.  I like to make boxes where my photos will go and little notes about where to place my embellishments.  Make this your own!  To my scrapbook girls.....there are no more excuses!  I'll be checking in to see how your planning is going.  We have 5 months before our next "girls weekend".

See example below:  (Please leave a comment below with your e-mail address if you would like me to send you the Word document)

Here is another layout of my daughter Hailey (shocking I know). Last summer during our visit to the Chateau Ste. Michelle Winery, we took advantage of a beautiful day and had an impromptu picnic!  Our picnic included our favorite wine, cheese from the gift shop and the resident duck.

About the layout:  I used paper and embellishments from my favorite product line-October Afternoon. I was excited to find the duck sticker just waiting to be put on the page! I also included carrot paper and no, there were no carrots at the Winery but the color matched. (smile)

If any of you follow my blog on a regular basis, you will be disappointed in my progress so far.  I made a resolution in January to start my blog and have not been back to it in several months.  What have I learned from this experience?  I don't take enough time for myself!  I am taking a staycation this week and will hopefully get my creative juices flowing again.  My daughter Hailey left last week to start her externship as a Medical Assistant.  If things go well, she plans to stay in Spokane.  I already miss her terribly.  boo hoo.  Who am I going to take photos of now?  My dogs already think I'm crazy as I make them pose for numerous photos!  We'll see how far my creativity goes.  I have a backlog of scrapbook layouts to show you so please stay with me for some exciting blogging in the next few days.  OK.....there is a hint of sarcasm in that last sentence!

One of my favorite subjects to scrapbook is my beautiful daughter Hailey.  I took this photo when we were wine tasting at Lake Chelan last summer.  The beautiful landscape fits my theme also.  I typically use earthy colors when scrapbooking outdoor photos and this was a great chance to use my Heidi Swapp papers and embellishments in the more "romantic" color scheme.  Hailey's floral romper matches perfect!
